I still have a long list of things to get done before we leave on vacation, but I just had to take a few minutes out to touch base with all my online buddies - I've missed the blogging world this week!
I've been running my butt off all week long (so has Ken). My friend's been trying to catch me on the phone and was laughing that every time she calls, Jamie says I'm at the store! Believe it or not (I hardly can myself), I am still managing OK. I wish I knew what the secret was - why I was so totally incapacitated for 8 months this winter and why I'm suddenly doing well again. Not that I'm complaining, but it would be nice if I had some control over it. I usually do well in the summer (except for two years ago when I got Lyme).
As of five minutes ago, I finally finished planning our trip and making reservations! Just in time. We're heading back to Oklahoma with our camper to see Ken's Dad, then to New Mexico. We've made the trip to Oklahoma many, many times and have our favorite stops - including Shenandoah National Park and Petit Jean State Park in Arkansas - but we're looking forward to exploring new areas in New Mexico.
OK, back to the list. Hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of summer!
Any particular area of New Mexico, Sue? I lived for many years about an hour north of Santa Fe, and my mom still lives there. I can recommend some spots to visit!

ReplyDeleteThat's pretty close to where we'll be! We're spending one night near Albuquerque, then heading up to the area near Jemez Springs (visiting Bandolier, Tent Rocks, etc.), then a day in Santa Fe.
Last year, we saw the northeast corner of NM on our way to Colorado (dino tracks at Claytor Lake and Mt Capulin Volcano), and we can't wait to see more of NM!

ReplyDeleteI'm learning so much lately about the benefits of giving up sugar, and I'm experiencing the benefits for myself, that I couldn't help but wonder if you do the no sugar thing too?

ReplyDeleteNope. We all try to eat a whole foods, nutritional diet but I don't make any special effort to give up sugar. I try to stay away from junk food for my waistline, but we eat fruit at almost every meal and I always have a little square of dark chocolate each day. When we camp, i indulge in s'mores and if we have Fudge Sticks in the house, all bets are off!

ReplyDeleteWow, have fun! That sounds so exciting. I got to go on a couple hikes the last few weeks, I seem to need 12-18 hours in bed following the hike but then don't do too badly.

Ahh! Where I lived was Los Alamos. I know exactly the areas you are describing (been to Bandolier many times).
ReplyDeleteIn Santa Fe, I recommend a restaurant called Tomasita's. It's a very cool atmosphere (in an old train station building) and the food is good and not very expensive. Try the tortilla soup.
In Los Alamos, if you like breakfast burritos, try a place called Chili Works. It has a reputation for being like the "soup nazi" episode in Seinfeld. But the burritos are outstanding.
I also recommend the Sandia Peak Tramway just east of Albuquerque. It is the world’s longest passenger aerial tramway and the views are spectacular.

ReplyDeleteha ha - isn't it funny how we think a 12-18 hour crash after a hike is "not too bad"? I'm managing pretty well lately and able to enjoy short hikes, but this winter, when I was badly flared up, I couldn't even manage a slow walk around the block.

haha, exactly! I ran into someone on one of my lucky days when I got out to a cafe. They said it was their first time leaving the house in three days because of the flu... I had to remember to act like that was a big deal! At my most tired I was counting up one stretch after another of 60-70 hours not leaving the house... whoosh! (not that I envied them their flu or anything, it's just so commonplace in my world to be shut in)

I have been following Dr. Cheney's protocol through Dr. Sharp in Fort Worth Texas and found that my husband and I went from extremely sick (wheelchair) to being able to work 60 hour weeks in several months. Dr. Sharp has other protocol as well for Lymes and other problems that accompany CFS. Part of it is giving up sugar and diet but 90% of it is the medicine which helps tremendously and has no side effects. My husband is a doctor and we have both researched the treatment and found it to be completely safe. Dr. Sharp is also inexpensive and kind. Just passing this along since I feel so good and was so sick before that I feel guilty if I do not take the time now that I am well to pass this information along to other people.
