No time for movies last week with all our holiday stuff going on, but I just read that Blake Edwards, the famous Hollywood writer/director and husband to Julie Andrews, died last week from pneumonia at age 88. Did you know he had CFS? He appeared in the CFS documentary I Remember Me (an older film but highly recommended).
And guess what? The Hollywood Reporter's obituary of Blake Edwards actually mentions his CFS diagnosis! Although it wasn't a secret, he didn't seem to mention it very often - I'm guessing he wanted people to focus on his accomplishments, not his illness - so I was surprised to see it included in this article.
He was a talented man and will be missed. Favorite Blake Edwards' movies, anyone?? Of course, the Pink Panther movies were classics, but I didn't realize he also directed Breakfast at Tiffany's, which I loved.
I have had Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) since March 2002. Both of my sons also got ME/CFS at ages 6 and 10. Our younger son fully recovered after 10 years of mild illness. Our older son still has ME/CFS and also has Lyme disease plus two other tick infections. I love all of those movies. I wonder if the pneumonia was a complication of the CFS?
ReplyDeleteI did see a very funny movie that I think you would like Big Trouble with Tim Allen. It is a bad guys fumbling everything movie which both hubby and I loved.
I did hear of his death and wondered if his CFS would be mentioned...If i remember correctly, Julie Andrews spoke of it once briefly when I saw her on TV a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteI am grateful someone somewhere mentioned his CFS upon his death. There was probably a connection, as I am hearing more and more that CFS/ME patients are dying from other things caused by the CFS. This is news to me, as I had learned early on that CFS doesn't kill you.

Hey, let's not forget that Blake Edwards was 88 years old! Pneumonia is a fairly common cause of death at that age, so it's likely it had nothing to do with his CFS.
