Movie Monday 5/23

Busy, busy, busy week and weekend, so not much time for movies lately.  We're all pretty tired today, after spending the weekend at soccer games, doing yardwork, cooking (me), and vacation planning.

Actually, the yardwork was quite a milestone for me.  Craig mowed the lawn (a new development that makes Ken happy!), and Ken worked most of the day Sunday, but the big news is that I weeded for about 40 minutes and....(drumroll, please)...did not crash today!  I did see, however, why weeding has always crashed me before.  Even with my beta blockers, within about 5 minutes of going out there, my heart rate was already up against my anaerobic threshold!  Amazing how much I've learned from using a heart rate monitor.

Anyway, Ken and I did squeeze in one movie Saturday night:
  • We watched How Do You Know, a romantic comedy starring Reese Witherspoon.  It was a fun, light-hearted movie, just what we needed.  I'm a big fan of Reese (very disappointed I missed seeing her at our local produce stand a few years back when she was visiting her then-in-laws).  She's about my age (mid-40's), almost exactly my height, has two kids like me...and was playing a 31-year old athlete in this movie quite convincingly!  She played a professional softball player cut from the US team and unsure what to do next, caught between two guys - a ditzy pro baseball player, played very well by Owen Wilson, and a nice guy caught in the midst of a criminal investigation, played by Paul Rudd.  Jack Nicholson (another favorite) plays his somewhat evil father.  Light and fun entertainment!
Have you seen any good movies lately?

P.S. If you are interested in what my family and I are reading this week, check out my Monday post on my book blog.

  1. Sounds like a good movie to see! How fun to be able to do yardwork....although I confess I have tick anxiety and am not much for yard work anymore!

  2. Renee -

I get that! I have major tick anxiety, too. Don't worry, I sprayed with DEET before going into the yard. One time, I sat in our pine-needle covered bed in shorts to weed (less strenuous that way, I figured), then went in and showered. I was drying off and couldn't seem to get rid of some little specks of dirt...then I realized they were tiny ticks (the exact size that can transmit Lyme disease) - all over my...uh...well...the area that touched the ground while I was sitting! Ken had to meticulously pick off every single one with tweezers - there were almost 70 of them!!! I now make sure to spray myself and sit on a towel, too. Creepy, huh?

  3. I like Reese too. She is so pretty. It sounds like a good movie but haven't watch too many movies lately. Actually, we cut out our cable so we dont have TV unless we watch it via internet. Well, I hope you have a blessed week.

  4. I'll have to add that one to my list. I like her movies.

70 deer ticks eeewwww! How aweful! I'm paranoid about them myself. Back before I got CFS and gardened all the time I used to sit on an old chair cushion when I was weeding. It kept my bum clean and was way more comfortable to sit on than the ground.

There are tick traps on the market now specifically for deer ticks. I think it only takes two to treat an average sized yard.

  5. Good for you Sue! That is a lot of weeding:)

We don't have ticks here where I live so I don't worry about them. But it must be terrible to live where they are...

That movie sounds wonderful! I will try to get it thru our library!

Blessings to you all and my goodness you all sound so busy!

  6. Thanks, Elaine!

I can't think of anyplace in the world that doesn't have ticks (maybe Antarctica?) Lyme disease has been documented in every state (not 100% sure about Hawaii, though) and on every continent except Antarctica. The ticks that carry these illnesses exist any where that deer and mice exist, which is just about everywhere.

Not trying to scare you, just wanted you to be aware...
