I just listened to a great program on time management, procrastination, and over-committing on Radio Times on NPR. Oh, my gosh, this is so me! I've always had a problem with trying to do too much, but it's become even more frustrating now that my productive time is so limited. More on all of this next week, as I officially start my new year and attempt to set some REASONABLE goals, for a change. Meanwhile, if you're interested, you can listen to a podcast of the show at the link.
Our next set of house guests comes in tonight. I managed a short trip to the grocery store (buying groceries would be so much less exerting if I didn't need to get 20 bottles of Gatorade every week!), but I took my mom up on her offer to bring dinner tonight.
Have a great weekend!
I have had Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) since March 2002. Both of my sons also got ME/CFS at ages 6 and 10. Our younger son fully recovered after 10 years of mild illness. Our older son still has ME/CFS and also has Lyme disease plus two other tick infections. This blog is about how our family lives with chronic illness, with a focus on improving our conditions and enjoying our lives in spite of these challenges.

I've discovered the joy of having groceries delivered! We have several local farm co-ops that will deliver fresh seasonal farmer's market-type produce to the doorstep so we get a box every two weeks! They recently started delivering a few groceries, too, so I'll log on before the delivery & add anything I might need. My hubby picks other things up on his way home as I ask him to. Now, I still go sometimes, but having the delivery set up and my hubby's runs, it makes my trips fewer and smaller, which definitely helps with the exertion level. That, and I try to go when grandma is watching littleA; that a huge amount of energy saved!
Grocery delivery is pretty awesome, Pam. I used it when our local store first started it and they waived the delivery fee. I really should consider it when I'm having a bad week - thanks for the reminder!
Our local nature center is just starting a CSA program, and I've been wondering whether to sign up. My husband was wondering what kind of variety you'd get - like would you get a big box full of kale in the fall or weeks of zuchini in the summer? Of course, ours would just be May thru Nov. You live in California, right?
And you're right...my husband is a huge help, too. So, no excuse for pushing myself to go to the store, is there??

you don't have to use Gatorade. Get the E-Lyte concentrated electrolytes and mix it in water or juice. One bottle will last you a week or two.
Consider having groceries delivered when you are having a good week! It frees up so much time and energy for the good stuff. The only reason I'm doing it myself at the moment is the vans can't get out because of the weather. And sometimes I like to be doing something normal.
Thanks for the podcast link, will investigate.

Thanks for the tip! I did try a bottle of E-lyte once, but the kids wouldn't drink it. I suppose I could experiment with mixing it with different things. We've also tried powdered Gatorade, but they don't like the taste as well. It's critical that they like it, otherwise it's just a waste of money (and when they don't drink as much, they don't feel as well).
As for me, I only have a glass of Gatorade rarely - I rely on V-8 juice - HUGE amounts of sodium, plus potassium, low sugar and calories, and good for me, too!
I should, however, rely on my husband to buy the Gatorade - it's the old story of "as long as I'm here, I might as well grab some..."

What a radical idea!! Seriously, I really need to start thinking that way more. I never have any energy left for the good stuff.
Our store charges $10 for delivery and I always feel bad about paying extra, but maybe if I didn't go to the grocery store, I'd have more energy for writing and could make more money!
Sue
It is a bit radical! I reduce the delivery charge by shopping twice as much half the time - so getting a big delivery once a fortnight or once a month.
Tried Gatorade for the first time this morning. Coincidentally came across it in a drinks machine. Not sure it did anything for me. I liked it though.

The extra salt makes a big difference for me. If I'm having a bad day, I drink a big glass of V-8 juice and feel immediately better. That's my trick - V-8 juice before I leave the house for shopping or book group or whatever. It helps to increase my blood volume and keep my blood pressure steadier. I buy the 12-oz cans to bring along, too!

Coool. I shall invest in some supplies - home delivered of course.
Our grocery delivered as a trial for a while and dropped it. Nobody near me does now. I haven't had the stamina or clarity to shop for groceries since the get go and I miss making selections every once in a while, though I do make the list. My husband is really good about shopping so I'm lucky that way. Yes, use your energy for fun things for sure!
I just discovered your blog on CFS. I know exactly what you mean by doing everything at the same time and getting frustrated. It's all about realistic objectives, I know. But I just don't do it! I'll certainly come back soon. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Just wanted to let you know that I have placed a link to your blog on mine! I have enjoyed reading your blog. Keep up the good work.
