Woohoo! Here's a very exciting development in the CFS/retrovirus research, as reported today in the Health Blog of the Wall Street Journal:
At the first-ever international workshop on XMRV, being hosted this week at NIH (National Institute of Health in the US), NIH Director announced a new study being undertaken, involving three different government agencies, top virologists, and 100 CFS patients (plus 100 healthy controls) to work together to get answers to the controversies surrounding CFS and XMRV and other retroviruses.
This is so exciting and just what we need: high-profile, government-funded research with top-notch scientists!! It seems we really have reached a turning point for CFS! Have a glass of grape juice tonight to celebrate!!
I have had Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) since March 2002. Both of my sons also got ME/CFS at ages 6 and 10. Our younger son fully recovered after 10 years of mild illness. Our older son still has ME/CFS and also has Lyme disease plus two other tick infections. This blog is about how our family lives with chronic illness, with a focus on improving our conditions and enjoying our lives in spite of these challenges.

Here is where to register for future clinical trials with the NIAID's HIV and Emerging Infectious Diseases Program. For information and to ask questions about participating in a study, please contact: Patient Recruitment and Public Liaison Office Toll Free: 1-800-411-1222 . Please pass this along, in hopes of swamping the NIAID with requests. Karen Hart
This is great news, Sue. Maybe our time has come...just maybe!! We've all certainly been patient enough (in both senses of the word "patient").
Wow - this is pretty cool. I have a friend with CFS in the UK who e-maailed me during the week to say the UK Health authorities have placed a lifetime ban on people with CFS giving blood - because of the virus link.
Hooray! (I had orange juice with strawberries in it).
Hooray hooray hooray!
It is good news, but still a long way to go I suppose - fingers crossed. I'll join you in juiced cabbage, broccoli, fennel and celery yay (oh for a glass of r)ed wine!!
